How Do I Apply LipSense?
1) Apply to clean, dry lips. Make sure lips are free of other cosmetics, lipsticks and lip balms. LipSense will not stay on properly if you apply it over such products.
2) Shake your LipSense tube and apply one layer of color, moving across your lips in one direction. Avoid going back and forth, and do not press you lips together at this time.
3) If you are using LipSense LinerSense , line your lips now, before applying your second layer of color. Shake your LinerSense before applying.
4) Apply your second layer of LipSense–use any color you choose.
5) Apply your third layer of LipSense–use any color you choose. Remember, do not press your lips together yet.
6) Use your Oops Remover at this time, before you apply your LipSense Moisturizing Shea Butter Gloss. Use Oops Remover to erase mistakes, or to visually alter, the shape of your lips by removing color.
7) Apply your LipSense Shea Butter Gloss all over lips. Be sure to get into your corners. Now, press your lips together, spreading the gloss all over your lips.
That’s it! You’re ready to go. Enjoy your day, and reapply your gloss as needed.
Why Does it Tingle When I first Apply LipSense?
Unlike conventional lipsticks, LipSense Liquid Lip Color does not contain waxes, resins or emulsifiers which can make your lips dry, causing tiny cracks that we may not realize we have. LipSense contains a mild alcohol-SD40. This ingredient causes the color to dry quickly and set properly, and keeps you tube sanitary. The tingle you may feel will go away as soon as you apply any LipSense moisturizing Shea Butter Gloss . And, over time, the Shea Butter Gloss will help repair the cracks in your lips. This repair may take up to 14 days with repeated use of LipSense Shea Butter Gloss, and abstaining from using drying wax based products on your lips. Stick with it, you will love the results! If your lips tingle when you apply LipSense, I recommend that you apply the moisturizing Shea Butter Gloss at bedtime, after removing you lipcolor.
Why Does LipSense contain SD Alcohol 40?
Science Behind the Product - LipSense LipSense® Long Lasting Liquid Lip Color is made of a combination of ingredients. Here are a few key components:
SD Alcohol 40 - SD Alcohol 40 is nothing close to isopropyl alcohol - or rubbing alcohol. In fact, you need SD Alcohol 40 to apply LipSense® to your skin. We formulate LipSense® with SD Alcohol 40 because:
* It is thinner than water and suspends the tiny particles within the formulae.
* It evaporates from the skin upon the delivery of the technology to the skin. (The “tingling” sensation felt on the lips, when some wearers first begin to use the color, is the evaporation process of the SD Alcohol 40. This disappears as lower layers of skin’s moisture content are restored from use of the gloss.)
How Do I Remove my LipSense Long Wearing Liquid LipColor?
LipSense Oops Remover will take off your color. If you are a first time user, or you prefer darker LipSense colors, I definitely recommend getting the Oops Remover. It also allows you to erase any mistakes you make when applying your color. To remover your color at the end of the day, simply run the Oops across your top and bottom lips. let it sit for about 10 seconds, and wipe it off. Depending on how well your lips hold the pigment, you may need to repeat this process.
You may also remove your lipcolor with some types of soap and water. Soap may dry out your lips, so be sure to use your LipSense moisturizing Shea Butter Gloss after using soap and water.
My preferred method of removal is to simply brush my lips with my soft bristled toothbrush, using the remaining toothpaste on my brush, after I have finished brushing my teeth. Works great and exfoliates my lips at the same time!
Be sure to remove your LipSense LipColor and any other cosmetics before bed.
Can’t I Use Any Kind of Gloss Over My LipSense?
Simply put, No. It is important that you understand why you need to use a LipSense Gloss. LipSense Moisturizing Shea Butter Glosses do not contain any synthetic or petroleum waxes, which will break down your LipSense color. Also, these glosses are designed to penetrate your lipcolor and moisturize your lips. They also protect your color from oils in the foods we eat. Wax based glosses will not do this, and you lips may feel dry. Wax based products may also give you those tiny cracks in you lips mentioned above.
Science Behind the Product – Glosses and Sports Balm
Here is a partial list of some of the ingredients in the LipSense Glosses and the role that they play:
*Butyrospermum Parkii - The scientific name for Shea Butter, considered as a plant lipid. Lipids are the oil and fat components of skin that prevent moisture evaporation from the skin and provide lubrication to the skin’s surface. Lipids are considered as a natural moisturizer.
*Dimethicone, Octoxynol-40, Isolaureth-6 - Silicone emollients which add to the silky feeling of the gloss.
*Beeswax - A natural, highly refined thickening agent used for it’s emollient properties that creates a coating over the lips to help seal in moisture.
*Tocopherol - A form of Vitamin E considered as an antioxidant superstar.
*Propylparaben - Has anti-fungal and anti-microbial properties that help to prevent the formation of yeast and mold in products. It is non-toxic and non-irritating to the skin.
My LipColor Stays on Longer than My Girlfriend’s–Why is that?
You may have noticed that some LipSense colors, and color combinations, may last differently. This is because our body breaks down the color over time. Some colors break down faster than others. Your body chemistry, and even the medications you take can affect the duration of LipSense colors. So, your girlfriend has a different body chemistry that you do, and she may be using a different color as well. We tend to break down the frosted shades a bit faster, so, I recommend that you use those as top layers, and use a non-shimmered color as your first layer. For example; Rose Ice, a great soft pink that is slightly frosted. It will last longer is you put it on top of a color lie Roseberry, or Dark Pink, instead of another frosted color, like Fire-n-Ice. That’s not to say that you cannot use a frosted shade for all three layers of color, but you color will last longer if you choose a non-frosted shade. I can wear 3 layers of Rose Ice for about 6 hours. But if I use Rose Ice on top of Sheer Berry, my duration goes up to about 10 hours. Not bad either way!
Why am I Supposed to Apply 3 Layers of LipSense Liquid Lip Color?
Three layers gives you maximum duration. Some people are happy with one or two layers, but 3 is ideal for longevity. Your layers do not need to be thick. It is better if you apply thin layers, moving in one continuos direction. You may use up to 3 different colors for your three layers. Experiment. Remember, one LipSense color = one shade, 2 LipSense colors = 9 different shades, 3 different LipSense colors gives you 27 different color combinations!
Science Behind the Product: Layering LipSense® is a must, due to the fact that the color breaks down with the pH balance of the skin.
* 1st layer - touches the skin’s pH and will begin to break down first and fastest.
* 2nd layer - protected from the bottom, away from the skin’s pH, by the first layer.
* 3rd layer - protects the second layer from the top down and prevents sheering of second layer of color by keeping away friction and saliva. The third layer breaks down just like the first layer, but from the top down. The second layer is sandwiched between the first and third and is protected by both for the longest period of use.
What is the Shelf Life of LipSense?
LipSense will last up to 3 - 5 years, unopened, and depending on how it is stored. Keep it at room temperature, away from heat or cold. (Do not store it, or your LipSense Shea Butter glosses in the car). Once you have opened it, it will most likely last about a year. The longer it sits, the more you need to shake it. SeneGence does not put a lot of chemical suspenders in the product, so the color will separate over time. The botanically based color may also change slightly over time. This does not affect the integrity of duration.
I used to see you at the TransWorld Jewelry Fashion and Accessory Show at the Rosemont Convention Center in Rosemont, IL near Chicago. Why don’t you have a booth there anymore?
Two reasons: I’ve had a serious back injury and it simply is not sensible for me to do the set-up and tear-down, or for me to stand on the concrete floor for the duration of the show. Also, tradeshows are expensive. Costs have gone up, and selling hours have gone down. Attendance is affected by many factors, one of which is the weather. A rain storm can destroy your sales. There is no guarantee that I will recover expenses from a tradeshow. It is even more difficult to do in our current economic environment. I have 3 kids to support and I can’t risk losing money on an expensive tradeshow. I am always just a click or call away, and I ship product all over the U.S., Canada and Australia. Why Did They Discontinue (insert your favorite shade here) LipSense Color?
Most likely because sales did not warrant keeping that color in stock. That doesn’t mean that a discontinued color will never be back. SeneGence moves colors in and out of the line, introducing new ones and bringing back old favorites. If a new color fails to meet certain goals, they may bring back a previous shade instead. Having a LipColor you love discontinued can be devasting, I understand. So, if you are looking for a color, call me! I may still have it, or, may be able to locate it for you. I can also suggest a color combination that will give you a very similar look. LipSense shades sell differently in various regions of the country. Just because a color is popular in the midwest, does not mean it is selling well enough to meet the standard. I will do my best to spread the word out when I hear a color is going to be retired, so you can stock up.
What is a “Limited Edition” LipSense Color?
When SeneGence launches a new color, or brings back an old favorite, they typically call them “Limited Edition”. This means two things: It is available for a limited time, and it is in a slightly smaller .20 ounce tube, instead or the regular .25 ounce LipSense tube. All LipSense colors retail for $20.
Does LipSense have SPF?
No, LipSense does not contain SPF ingredients. However; LipSense provides a physical shield against the harmful UV rays. So, your lips are protected when you wear LipSense Liquid LipColor.

LipSense Long Lasting Liquid LipColor ; I bet you thought this would be #1. I love it, but, I would find it more difficult to be without the other products listed before this one. I am crazy about the moisturizing Shea Butter Glosses! I was devasted when they discontinued Boughanvilla.

10) LashSense mascara; A bit thinner than conventional mascara, but it doesn’t have tar, so, no racoon eyes. And it won’t come off until I take it off with Foops Remover. My eyes are very sensitive, and I can sweat and swim in LashSense without a problem.
